About this deal

As I have mentioned, the Derwent Graphitint range are a watersoluable pencil which can be used as a conventional dray pencil medium, but should not necessarily be used in this way due to the muted colours. Then with a wet paintbrush, I continued the same stippling movement so as not to blend or drag the detail. Graphitint has the same properties as our 4B Watersoluble Sketching pencil so it will appeal to artists looking to add a colourful dimension to their graphite drawings but retain all the familiar qualities of their favourite graphite pencil. I attempted to erase some of the blue colour to see how well I could remove it but was never able to fully erase the tinge. If the idea of graphite and colour in one pencil is surprising, just wait until you add water to Derwent Graphitint and it explodes into colour!

Watercolourists should be aware that these paints are opaque, though some rich colours can be made in combination with gouache and so it doesn't matter about being opaque then. When used dry, Graphitint provides just a hint of colour but adding water transforms the tint into rich, shimmering shades with an underlying, graphite sheen. The Derwent Graphitint pan set would make a fun and interesting gift for an artistic friend or family member. I am not going to mince my words here, as with the Derwent Drawing range, I absolutely love this particular range of pencils. Use Derwent Graphitint pencils dry to give a subtle hint of colour to your graphite drawing and add water to make the colours more vibrant. One thing I have noticed in my time reviewing Derwent products, quality control is most certainly not an issue. When used dry, the lead provides a hint of colour but by adding a little bit of water, it really brings the colour to life, revealing a rich, shimmering shade with a graphite sheen.

Developed especially for water-soluble pencils, this smooth paper is perfect for all water-soluble media. For instance, Inktense, a unique water-soluble pencil that’s permanent when dry, or Lightfast the oil-based pencil that ensures vibrancy for over 100 years. Dry applications provide a hint of colour, while adding water transforms pigments into rich shades with an underlying graphite sheen. Protecting your portrait upon completion can be achieved by using a fixative spray and I may do a window test with this painting to check the lightfastness of the colours. Obsessing over highest quality materials and forever creating an ever evolving exceptional range for every artist.Box of 24 assorted warm and cool colours: Port; Juniper; Aubergine; Dark Indigo; Shadow; Steel Blue; Ocean Blue; Slate Green; Green Grey; Meadow; Ivy; Sage; Chestnut; Russet; Cool Brown; Cocoa; Autumn Brown; Storm; Warm Grey; Midnight Black; Mountain Grey; Cloud Grey; Cool Grey and White. Derwent as a company are producing some of the most versatile products on the market at the minute, the Drawing and Graphitint ranges may not have a large number of colours in their sets, but the colours they do have will be difficult to find in other sets, making them a unique brand of pencils. I’ve not conducted my own lightfastness test with the pans yet, but the tests I did with some of the pencils showed about half the colour saturation lost within 7 days of starting my test (with the charts pinned to my front window) and the colour was completely gone after a month, so it’s safe to assume a test with the pans would have a similar outcome. So to answer the questions at the beginning of this review, Are you likely to use them on a painting?
