About this deal

This is especially true for Minna no Nihongo, whose main textbook only features Japanese (the translation comes in a separate workbook).

You get to learn Japanese in Japanese, and there’s more immersion, as opposed to Genki, which likes to communicate to you in English too much. I don’t have Minna, but my understanding is that it has less romanization and is more heavily written in Japanese. Hope you found my study tips because the Tae Kim grammar guide could probably be exactly what you need. One of the biggest advantages of studying with the Minna no Nihongo series is that it covers such a wide range of topics.I just discovered that, aside from the main Japanese language volume and the corresponding English language translation/explanation book I already have, there are many supplemental volumes per level. I have the two Minna no Nihongo books but the ones I have have different covers than the ones you posted. Some parts are a little boring though as it is aimed towards business people and the plays are hilarious. that make up this book, the learner can practice his/her communication skills while improving his/her listening comprehension.

In that sense, Genki is more adapted to beginners who want to self-study while Minna no Nihongo is more immersive from the start and requires more from the learners. This is a good guide though if you are using it as a main textbook in a lesson or as an accompaniment. I didn’t know about the Genki textbooks back then but everything minna no nihongo fails to do is done perfectly in there.
