About this deal

A few years later I had discovered Trangia had done just that, to create 'add ons' that would enable the design classic that is the faithful Trangia to run on other fuels including gas, so if I want to revisit that past idea again, it will at least be easier this time around, but just to alert you to the fact these days they don't just run on meths.

It is provided with a screw cap, which will seal the unit and any remaining fuel for transportation. (Not long term storage) The MSR is just a multi liquid fuel blow torch albeit a well designed and built reliable blow torch applied to the bottom of the pan and minorly the sides, but one still has to carry pans and a windbreak. Your mileage will vary, but in the real world, that’s how it works for me. What fuel does a Trangia useThe thinness of the steel made everything feel “sharp”, but all the corners are rounded for safety, making the unit unlikely to actually damage you or your gear in use. It fits nicely into the small mess tin and said tin can hold both this stove and the B26 with ease, making it quite a neat little system. The pot stands however are narrow to the mess tin making tipping rather frequent. But for an overnighter, the 250ml bottle that you can buy meths in works well and is a good amount for 2 people and 24 hours. The pot problem My next stove of which perhaps I will get next month will be a Stainless 'Wild Woodgas' stove so in terms of fuel I can use contained woody material to create flammable gas as fuel or I could use my Trangia meths burner in it, as my outdoor cooking needs have changed. The 3 pieces of stainless clip together and the steel insert for the burner just pushes in to place. It’s so simple, but is a little fiddly until you get used to it. Then drop the burner in to place in the central hole. Having removed the lid and not quite filled it with meths beforehand.

It fits perfectly in our Honey Stove, either as a square or hexagonal cooking unit, giving alternative cooking fuels. To extinguish the stove, put the closed simmer ring over the flame. NEVER blow it out. It doesn’t work and you will end up with flaming meths everywhere. Don’t use the lid or the o ring will melt. Buy 2, or combine it with another type of stove and you have a setup that will cook the finest of meals. With a little experience and practice, these simple stoves are fail-safe and highly effective (and according to some steampunk lovers, boring )So, the flames were to high for me to use the cap to put it out and I couldn't move my saucepan. I had to let it burn to the end each time. Maybe there's a problem with my setup / burner or I am doing something wrong hopefully. Petrol stoves can flare quite high at startup, so aren't good for use inside a tent, and often don't simmer well as the burner has to be kept hot enough to vaporise the fuel before it gets to the jet. It comprises 3 stainless steel sheets (some 77mm x 130mm x 0.5mm with a 10mm projecting “pot stand”, a centre top and having 52mm assembly slots and 52mm long by 4mm wide locating tags, a centre ring support slot 3mm x 25mm in around the middle of the sheet, and two rows of 6mm diameter ventilation holes at the base and a 25mm x 20mm slot allowing passage of the gas burner fuel pipe), and a burner support ring of 3mm stainless steel wire which has an outer ring that fits into the slots in the sheets, and an inner “ring” made of 4 welded sections to give the burner support. If there are 2 of us, and a cooked breakfast is involved, as well as a proper evening meal, I will take 1/2 a litre of fuel.

And, finally, here are shots of one of my Trangia 25 stoves, at full flame, and with simmering plate in place. Use the simmer ring to control the heat. If you combine this control with adding or removing a wind shield, you can achieve remarkable control over temperature. This little stove is a joy to cook on, as you can simmer really easily. I was really excited since I was looking for something lite and i heard Trangia stoves are classic. Saw quite a few Youtube videos with exactly the same setup that I have, seemed all to work perfectly.

GET AHEAD OF THE CROWD!

Using a flint and steel it is easy to light, and I've found a good puff will blow it out (although this isn't approved by Trangia). Failing that and inverted mug will starve the flame of Oxygen. I would regard this as an essential addition in all but the lightest breezes in the summer. I use a foldable foil one, that weighs next to nothing. Welcome to CCS! I can tell you what I "think" your problem might be: You're not using a windscreen with your setup! When I got mine, a gift from a good friend in New Zealand, it came with a light windscreen that wrapped around the stove stand. Works perfectly, and I've used mine with the Trangia simmering ring almost closed all the way, too!! Give this link a squint, and see if you understand what I mean: Trangia says it is fine to burn ethanol above 70%, but it will be sooty. Buying a Trangia Triangle – beware If you have a pot that is less than 10cm in diameter, it will not fit on the pot stands. This is a real problem for most titanium mugs that are popular as pots. Mine falls though.
